IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) power modules are the heart of the inverter section in Uninterruptible Power Systems, responsible for converting stored DC battery voltage into clean, reliable sine-wave AC power—vital for powering sensitive data center equipment and mission-critical loads. In many designs, they also play a key role in maintaining stable output during rapid load changes and utility disturbances.
These high-performance semiconductor devices operate under intense thermal and electrical stress, making them subject to eventual degradation or failure over time. Common contributors include elevated operating temperatures, repetitive high-current switching, airflow restrictions, and aging in surrounding components such as driver boards, DC bus capacitors, and cooling assemblies.
