How long has Gruber Power been in operation?
We have been operating since 1984.
The Gruber Companies began with humble roots in a modest North Phoenix home.
Our founder, Pete Gruber, always had a deep fascination with electronics. As a teenager in the 1960s, he worked at a local radio shop—an early sign of his passion for all things technical. After gaining hands-on experience in the two-way radio field as a field engineer, Pete briefly explored a different path, homesteading and farming in upstate New York. But the pull of technology proved stronger.
In the late 1970s, he relocated his family to Phoenix, Arizona, in search of warmer weather and new opportunities. Eager to expand his technical expertise, Pete turned his focus to computing. His background and curiosity led him to Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)—then considered second only to IBM—where he quickly advanced from bench technician to field engineer repairing mainframe computers onsite, and eventually to site planning consultant. In that role, he advised clients on preparing their facilities for large mainframe installations, power requirements, HVAC, access floor, cabling, fire suppression and access floor, gaining a deep understanding of data center infrastructure.
After a decade in the corporate world, Pete made a bold decision: to step away from corporate life and build something of his own.
Operating out of his home, Gruber Associates was born. The company quickly earned a reputation for quality and professionalism, prompting a move into commercial space—laying the foundation for what would become our multi-building North Phoenix campus.
From this core business, multiple divisions naturally emerged. Data Center construction included equipment sales, which led to the need for ongoing service. Demand for raw materials like cabling created an opportunity for manufacturing. As these interconnected needs surfaced, synergistic businesses were launched—each reinforcing and expanding the capabilities of the others.
Today, the Gruber Companies is a diversified, multi-division organization built on decades of innovation, integrity, and technical excellence—all rooted in one man's passion for technology and a dream that started in his living room.
